What is the importance of the figure of Our Lady of Guadalupe?

There are, in fact, few Mexican lucky symbols as unifying as that of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

When the Virgin Mary appeared to Juan Diego, an indigenous pre-Columbian people, to speak to him in the language of his ancestors, it forever marked a turning point in the history of Mexico.

This appearance made it possible to facilitate the conversion of the descendants of the Aztecs, Mayans and Toltecs, and thus to ease tensions between local populations and European leaders.

Some historians even claim that bloodbaths were thus avoided. Once again, the lives of thousands of men were saved by the Virgin.

In short, by looking more closely at this Our Lady of Guadalupe ring we can decipher a secret symbolism hidden behind it.

Already, the Lady is standing on the moon. For pre-Columbian peoples, this star symbolized the deities of night and death. By being placed above, the Virgin shows us very clearly that she dominates them.

Then his face is slightly tilted. For ancient Mexican natives, looking directly at someone was considered very disrespectful. Our Lady of Guadalupe therefore shows here a certain mark of respect, some will even speak of love.

Finally, as is often the case, this representation of the Virgin shows her with her hands clasped in a prayer position. This simply means that she is not a goddess, but rather a devotee of the one God.

Even tinged with symbols and allusions of indigenous peoples, this ring of the Virgin of Guadalupe remains indeed a Christian symbol of great purity.

The figure she wears is, and will forever remain, a Christian and Mexican good luck charm, symbol of the union of an entire people behind their faith.
