If Turkey interests us it is because this country is one of the last testimonies of a spirituality that is now over. Despite Islam being the majority in the population today, there remain traces of their ancient belief system. This is Tengrism.
Before settling in Anatolia following invasions spanning several decades, the Turkish people were nomad. Originating in Central Asia, many parallels can be drawn between the Turks and the Mongol hordes. In particular the beliefs in an original celestial divinity called “Tengri”.
According to this religion, it is the actions of each living being in its environment that will determine its destiny and the meaning of its life. The use of lucky charms then made it possible to increase the effect of some of these actions tenfold, and to reduce others.
Today, most of the time, the Turkish lucky charm is perfectly integrated into Islam who quickly finds a meaning in accordance with the message of the Prophet. Just look at the connections with this set of lucky charms and Muslim symbols to be convinced.
Many of the lucky charms in this collection therefore have a double meaning.
Heirs of the Ottoman Empire, the Turks can boast of descending from a gigantic empire which dominated a large part of Europe and the Middle East. From the Bosphorus Strait to the Caucasus Mountains, the Turkish people dominate a rich and large territory. It is therefore logically the same for the Turkish lucky charm.
