And so, who exactly are these two crows?

Huginn and Muninn are Odin's two ravens, representing thought and memory respectively. This is what their respective names mean in Old Norse.

These two sacred birds once flew over Midgard in search of information to bring back to their master. This association has also earned Odin to be called by some "the god of ravens".

Many stories suggest that this link comes from the warrior character of the god. As a symbol of war (and therefore to a certain extent of death), ravens were ideally suited to represent it.

Indeed, these animals are scavengers, the last beings to occupy the battlefield, tearing into pieces the flesh of fallen warriors. We can affirm that war feeds the crow, that killing an enemy amounts to offering a meal to these evil beings.

While Huginn, Muninn and their companions take with them the bodies of the men who fell in battle, Odin takes care of their souls and takes charge of taking them to Valhalla.

Aside from their relationship to war, blood, and madder, ravens are also exceptionally intelligent beings. Here again, this characteristic brings them closer to Odin, god of wisdom and the mystical arts.

Sometimes sinister but sometimes also interesting, the Huginn and Muninn figures constitute an ideal subject for the creation of this type of lucky pendant.
