But actually, who is Acalanatha?
Acalanatha is a highly revered guardian deity in Vajrayana Buddhism, a branch with a strong presence in Japan.
The specialists of this religion (some speak of once, but so be it) classify Acalanatha among the vidyārāja, the "gods of anger" of esoteric Buddhism supposed to hold great keys of wisdom.
The Japanese school often presents the god Acalanatha to us as a kyōryō tenshin, an entity whose very essence constitutes the basis of the world in which we live.
All of these terms may seem complex (and they are). There is one thing to take away from this, however: Acalanatha is a very powerful deity that many Buddhists respect and fear.
Its very name testifies to a certain power. Acalanatha actually comes from the Sanskrit word “acala” which literally means “immutable”. This reflects quite well the deep nature of this ancient divinity.
Acalanatha can therefore offer us its protection, while being linked to a kind of immobility, of conservation of the good things of the past.
From Tibet to China, including of course India, we find groups who worship the god Acalanatha throughout Asia.
Some paint it on the walls of their temples and homes. Others will prefer to honor him by wearing jewelry that represents him, as is the case with this lucky signet ring.
