What is palo santo? And what are its benefits?
“Palo santo” is the name given to the wood of a tree that grows in South America (mainly Peru and Ecuador).
If we talk to you about palo santo, it is not out of passion for botany, but more out of our passion for care and well-being.
Indeed, this substance has been used by the indigenous peoples of America since the dawn of time for its powerful healing properties.
Burned so that it releases its properties in its dense smoke (a bit like incense), palo santo is used to purify, to remove certain bad energies and to drive away stress and worries.
Traditionally, this type of essence was used as a remedy for pain and mental agitation. More recently, palo santo could also be used as an atmosphere purifier, but also for its ability to scare away harmful insects.
According to many healers, this true sacred wood also has effects on our nervous and immune systems.
Many animist priests also burn it during ceremonies aimed at blessing places or, on the contrary, to scare away negative entities.
All these properties would actually result from the presence of a very particular substance in palo santo: limonene, an essential compound contained in a large quantity of our wood.
In short, with its relaxing and woody smell that tickles our nostrils, it is easy to understand why so many people enjoy burning it at home.
