I think I see what Christ the Redeemer is, but what is his story anyway?
Every year, millions of Catholic pilgrims visit Mount Corcovado to see this giant statue of Christ.
In the mid-19th century, a local priest had a strange idea. He decided to erect a monument to the glory of Jesus Christ at the top of this mountain. There is therefore no doubt that it is indeed a Christian monument!
He asked the Brazilian state to finance his project. Unfortunately, the separation of Church and state had been decided shortly before, which made this kind of achievement complicated to say the least... The idea was therefore unfortunately abandoned.
After the First World War, an observation had to be made: Rio was a decadent city whose population was moving further and further away from religion and towards sin.
A group of believers, helped by the Church, decided to revive the project, which had then fallen into oblivion.
It took years, billions of dollars, the work and sweat of thousands of men. .. but the statue of Christ the Redeemer was raised.
Since then, the inhabitants of the city of Rio have seen Christ dominating and watching over them every day.
