Agarwood incense is incredibly powerful.
Agarwood, also known in Europe as oudwood, is a dark-colored resinous species that forms in trees known as aquilaria.
This particular essence is a real institution in Vietnam where the locals call it “calambac”.
The Vietnamese have always used it as an ingredient in remedies or during religious rituals.
However, it was towards the end of the 16th century that calambac experienced its meteoric rise. As Nguyễn Hoàng, a historic lord of Vietnam, took control of the lands in the center of the country, he began to encourage the production and trade of this precious commodity.
Nowadays, calambac is mainly used in perfumery and for the manufacture of high-end cosmetics.
However, there remain certain Vietnamese communities for whom the primary role of this wood is to be burned to ward off spirits and curses.
Indeed, the warm and woody scent that escapes from its smoke is known to drive away bad energies.
