What is a Chrism actually?
A Chrism is an acronym, a set of letters or characters, used to represent Jesus Christ.
Here, the first two letters of his name in Greek are represented. Sometimes it's something else. No matter: for many Christians, praying over this kind of symbol allows them to draw their hearts closer to the Lord.
For the faithful, Chrism is not a symbol of the death of Jesus, but rather of his triumph through resurrection, his sacrifice washing humanity of its sins and thus opening the possibility for all believers to reach heaven.
Whether we are talking about a lucky pendant such as this one, engravings in churches and cathedrals, or even annotations in old bibles, the meaning of the Chrism cross always remains approximately the same: that of recognition of Jesus Christ as our Savior.
