The Dwennimmen? What does this lucky charm tell us?
Ghana has an incredibly rich history, culture and beliefs. Long before the arrival of European settlers and missionaries, the Akan people of Ghana had developed a rich set of symbols to explain their beliefs.
Consisting of a stylized representation of clashing ram's horns, the Dwennimmen is one of them.
By showing us the ram, this African symbol carries within it values of courage, temerity but also perseverance in suffering, emphasizing through its existence that even the strongest among us must remain humble.
Indeed, this animal knows how to fight with incredible violence when it comes to defending its loved ones and its territory (hence the link with courage), but also submits to slaughter when its master decides to do so (hence humility).
The Dwennimmen is therefore an African lucky charm in an ambivalent sense...
Strength and gentleness: he invites us to combine seemingly opposite qualities which, if they learn to balance, can create wonders.
When we think about it, it appears that Dwennimmen is suitable for everyone. He teaches the strong to show clemency and the weak to show tenacity.
