What is a Calavera actually?
We actually call the decorated skulls that we can find in Mexico by the name “Calavera”.
Far from the sinister image we may have of them, Mexicans see them as fun accessories, full of life and good humor.
Apparently, this astonishing conception of death came directly to them from their ancestors: the Aztecs.
This violent and warlike people worshiped many astonishing gods, among whom their goddess of death was traditionally honored with offerings made... of the skulls of slain enemies.
This tradition can be chilling, that’s clear.
Luckily for us, the Calavera we see on this lucky signet ring is not associated with violence or the dark sides of death!
Indeed, this Mexican symbol reflects the special relationship that these people have with their deceased: for them, death is only a passage that there is no reason to mourn.
Thus, seeing a skull decorated with bright colors and positive symbols (as is the case here) reminds us of the importance of maintaining hope and good humor, but also of the connection we have with our deceased loved ones.
This Calavera signet ring is therefore resolutely associated with the joy and dynamism of life.
These are two qualities that we would all like to have on our finger!
