Guanyin? Who is this one?
With her name literally meaning "who observes sounds", the goddess Guanyin is said to be able to hear all the sounds of the Earth.
This strange power actually helps her do what she loves most: helping people. The deity of mercy par excellence, Guanyin is said to show exceptional love and compassion towards each of us. More precisely, it would often intervene in the relief of people in distress (physical or moral).
It is generally accepted that Guanyin originated in India. In fact, it would correspond to the feminine side of the Hindu god Avalokiteśvara, whose image would have modified over time to better fit with the mentality and spirituality of the Chinese people.
In Buddhist scriptures from the Middle Kingdom, Guanyin is described as possessing vast magical powers and having the ability to relieve us of our suffering simply by listening to us.
This point of view is actually not very far from that which feng shui has on this goddess.
