The Christ the Redeemer statue was built between 1926 and 1931 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is located at the top of Mount Corcavado, overlooking the city from its splendor.
At 38 meters high, it is the largest statue of Jesus Christ in the world, and therefore a major Christian monument. The gigantic span of its arms (around 28 meters from one end to the other) often impresses tourists.
When seeing this statue, many feel a feeling of openness typical of Christian charity, a special love sent to us by Christ. More than just a monument, it is a striking symbol that we keep in mind all our lives once we have had the chance to see it.
The very name of this statuette recalls some of the most important teachings of Catholicism. "Redeemer" is a term often associated with Christ which means that he can save us. .. More precisely, that he brings us redemption.
By dying on the cross, he in fact freed humanity from their sins, giving each child of God the chance to live their life in grace. Through his death, Jesus taught us that God is ready to forgive us and offer a second chance to those who truly repent of their mistakes.
The inhabitants of Rio de Janeiro have understood this well and, since its creation, have devoted a particular cult to their beloved statue. Thus, just like the original, this statuette of Christ the Redeemer is a constant reminder of this message of love and forgiveness.
