The lotus flower? What's so special about it actually?
In Buddhist and Hindu traditions, the lotus is considered one of the "auspicious eight", a group of eight lucky symbols recognized for their symbolic significance and the powers to which they are linked.
In particular, the lotus flower represents what is purest in our world, what knows how to rise from the material to reach the highest spheres of consciousness.
This plant is often linked to the ability to escape from the eternal circle of reincarnations. In other words, the lotus flower is a representation of nirvana, the ultimate goal that many Eastern philosophical traditions aim for.
In Asian art, the lucky lotus is therefore used to express ideas of purity and elevation. We can find it alongside statues of deities and mythological characters from all Asian cultures. A character in particular is associated with our flower: it is the Buddha.
According to legend, lotuses actually grew in the traces left by his footsteps, he saw one of its immaculately white flowers shortly before reaching enlightenment and appeared in a dream to his mother when she was pregnant, announcing to him that his son would have a great destiny.
