Fly agaric, what is that for a mushroom?
This plant species is actually a special German lucky charm.
Associated with nature, the beauty and the magic of the forest, mushrooms are seen in many countries as a symbol of luck. Finding one while out walking is often considered a very good omen meaning that fortune is within reach.
Among all the species, there is one particularly dangerous: the fly agaric. Amanita muscaria from its scientific name, it has a bright red cap with white polka dots. Extremely toxic, it should never be tasted... ever.
In Germany, however, the lucky fly agaric does not have the same meaning as elsewhere...
This mushroom is actually hung in the Christmas tree just like any other decoration.
In this context, the fly agaric will reflect a certain respect for nature, as well as a desire to see the coming year unfold with joy.
