What is henna paste actually?

The use of henna paste is a tradition that has been part of Berber, Moroccan and Kabyle cultures since the dawn of time.

Henna designs date back to the times of the first nomadic Kabyle and Berber communities that roamed North Africa.

Often associated with weddings, fights, births and a plethora of other celebrations, the designs that henna makes on the skin have more than just an aesthetic role.

From a technical point of view, henna paste is obtained from a plant that grows in the Maghreb region. Its leaves are then ground to form a fine powder, which is then mixed with water to create a thick paste.

Artists use a brush or stick to apply the paste to the skin, creating intricate designs. It is in reality these motifs which will give the lucky charm thus created its power.

Indeed, while many visitors appreciate the art of henna for its beauty, Moroccans attach greater importance to the drawn symbols.

Moroccan lucky charm or Kabyle lucky charm, it doesn't matter. The goal will almost always be to attract luck and repel the evil eye.

And you, would you prefer to make a purely aesthetic tattoo, or rather focus on the power of the symbols it contains?
