What is the history of the Saint Anthony of Padua medal?

To answer this question, let's look at the life of this character.

Saint Anthony was born into a wealthy family in Lisbon, Portugal. At the age of fifteen he was sent to the Abbey of Santa Cruz in Coimbra. There he learned Latin and theology in particular.

Shortly after his priestly ordination, he was appointed responsible for hospitality at the abbey. He only held this position for a short time before joining the Franciscan Order.

Seeking to spread the word of God as much as possible, Saint Anthony of Padua decided to leave for Morocco. Unfortunately, he became extremely ill, and had to be repatriated to his native country.

As misfortune never comes alone, his ship was caught in a storm, and drifted until arriving in Sicily. Saint Anthony of Padua then spent his convalescence there praying and studying the Bible.

Already there, he stood out for his exceptional ability to find writings deemed lost or forgotten.

As you will see, this element is directly linked to the Christian lucky charm that is the medal of Saint Anthony.

In short, gradually regaining his health, he found a place in the local churches, going so far as to meet another very well-known religious of the time: Saint Francis of Assisi. The two men became friends and worked together in the preaching work.

Throughout his life Saint Anthony shone through remarkable work, fervor and assiduity.

We owe him in particular the compilation of many forgotten writings, as well as simple, but terribly effective methods of preaching the good news.

Thus, the medal of Saint Anthony is a well-known Christian lucky charm, used since to help us, like this great saint, find the objects that we have misplaced.
