A medal of Saint Raphael, okay... but who is he actually?
According to Christian tradition, Saint Raphael is one of the seven Archangels who "stand before the throne of the Lord."
In particular, he was sent by God to help Tobiah and Sarah. At the time, Tobiah's fiancée Sarah had been affected by a curse.
Seven times she tried to get married and seven times she saw her husband die the day before the wedding. The evil one really enjoyed tormenting her in a very cruel way.
Saint Raphael then took Tobiah on a journey, disguised as a man named Azariah. He thus helped him overcome his difficulties and offered him his blessing so that he could marry Sarah in complete safety.
Tobiah was extremely grateful to Saint Raphael for allowing him to marry the one he loved. We can understand it without much difficulty.
He also credited the Archangel with making him see our Father, as well as his divine light.
The Saint Raphael medal therefore clearly represents a particular character with powerful powers.
This is also seen through his name: Raphael literally means “God heals”.
This has also been linked to a biblical story where Saint Raphael is said to have “healed” the earth after it had been defiled by the sins of fallen angels.
He is therefore the patron saint of the blind, nurses, doctors and travelers.
