What's so special about myrrh actually?

Myrrh is the sticky resin that comes from a tree known as Commiphora myrrha.

Sacred substance par excellence, we find it in numerous religious texts, mainly in those of the Bible.

Considered a great treasure, it was offered to Jesus Christ by one of the three wise men of the Gospels.

This is undoubtedly the best-known use made of it throughout history... but very clearly not the first, the history of myrrh going back several thousand years!

The Ancient Egyptians, for example, used it to embalm their dead.

In magical traditions around the world (notably European witchcraft), myrrh is a key ingredient in many spells and often serves as protection against certain types of "spiritual" attacks.

Historically, it was also used as a remedy and for healing wounds. Interestingly, some of its properties have been supported by recent studies that see myrrh as a promising substance.

Ingredient of yesterday or today, used to heal ailments of the body, soul or spirit: myrrh still has a bright future ahead of it, don't you think?
