What's so special about Norse runes?
Runes are some of the most mysterious symbols of all time.
Amazing for their powers and the uses we can make of them, their link with ancient Viking culture is obvious.
It was in fact the proud people of the North who were the first to use runes as magical glyphs.
Legend even has it that it was Odin himself, the father of the gods and the wisest of all, who offered the runes to men.
This is truly a great gift, because Odin had to undergo terrible trials to gain this knowledge: he spent nine days upside down, impaled and hanging from the world tree Yggdrasil.
In short, magical runes have been used for centuries (probably even millennia), and for a whole bunch of reasons.
Already, they constituted a kind of alphabet (the reality is more complex than that, but so be it) which allowed the transmission of tradition and the knowledge of the ancients.
