So it's an Arab lucky charm... but in fact, what is a jinn?

Genies, or jinns as the Arab people call them, come from a long line of mythological creatures whose first traces appear around 2400 years BCE.

Yes, this largely predates the appearance of this type of oriental-style oil lamp.

According to the Quran, Allah created the jinn from the “fire of a burning wind.”

It was only later that humans were made from mud and clay.

No source specifies the time elapsed between the birth of the jinn and the birth of humans. However, they had time to found their own society, their own religion and write their own laws. It's clear that a few years have passed...

The jinn were therefore much more than demons or malevolent spirits. They are intelligent creatures that live close to nature and are endowed with magical powers.

Some of them are good, others are bad. Much like men, most fall somewhere in between.

But that was before.

One day, the jinn betrayed Allah which, quite logically, made him mad with rage. Their civilization was therefore destroyed and the jinns scattered across the four corners of the world.

Since then, jinn only appear when they want to interact with humans... for example through this kind of oriental-style oil lamp.

So, at your own risk, no one really knows what could be hidden behind it!
