The cross of Jerusalem? How is it special?
This signet ring with the Jerusalem cross is so rich in symbolism that several distinct and complementary meanings can be given to it.
Some will call it the Crusader cross, due to the importance it had during the Crusades. (Hey, we wouldn't have suspected it!)
Others will prefer to speak of the fivefold cross, referring only to its appearance.
Regardless, this signet ring with the Jerusalem cross is certainly a special good luck charm.
Its large central cross, surrounded by four smaller ones, each occupying a quadrant, has given rise to a whole host of theories.
The first is that it would represent Christ's command to spread the Good News to the four corners of the world. The large cross would then represent Jesus while the small ones would indicate to us the directions that the missionaries must follow (that is to say all of them!).
A second theory tells us that this particular cross would show us the four evangelists grouped around the figure of God.
Finally, some think that the Christian lucky charm is a reminder of the wounds that Christ suffered on the cross (his four stigmata on his feet and hands as well as a wound in his side), and therefore of his sacrifice.
You can choose the point of view that you prefer... The fact remains that the Jerusalem cross will have a primordial meaning and will carry a heavy message.
