These proverbs effortlessly show us the deep connection between oaks, acorns and European culture.
We find this type of quote as early as the 14th century in France but, as you will see, European people have been using lucky acorns for much longer.
Celtic Druids believed that eating acorns would help one see the future. “Acorn” is also a word from ancient Gallic.
In Norse mythology, the tree associated with the god Thor was the oak.
More specifically, oral tradition tells us that the acorn is a symbol of life and fertility.
This is easily explained: some oaks can live up to 1000 years.
