What does Sanfoka represent in concrete terms?

“Sankofa” is an African word that comes to us from the Akan tribe in Ghana. The literal translation of this word gives us an idea like: "There is no shame in searching for what has been left behind."

Thus, the symbol of Sanfoka teaches us that what we have lost or what has been taken from us can absolutely be recovered, revalued.

Additionally, this African lucky charm represents the Akan's quest for knowledge.

Throughout history, these people have been able to produce sages and scholars thanks to a long tradition of critical examination of facts and the importance that patience can have in their culture.

In fact, this community is known throughout Africa for its search for new knowledge and its great scientific spirit.

It is therefore a question of a movement towards more and more knowledge over time... but without ever forgetting their roots. Indeed, as this great march forward continues, the legacy of the past must never be left behind.

Here again, the Sanfoka illustrates this idea beautifully: we can see the bird walking in one direction (the future) while facing the other (the past).

In the current context, all this reminds us of the importance of sometimes returning to our origins, something necessary for the success of our current projects.

There is indeed no better teacher than the lessons of the past.

For a symbol that offers such powerful messages, it is not surprising that many Africans, young and old, choose to wear this type of lucky pendant.

And you, what do you think of the teachings of Sanfoka?
