And so, what is Om?
The Om is an ancient Sanskrit language letter first found in the Vedas, the most important sacred writings of Hinduism originating around 1500 BCE. This symbol is even the very first to appear in the manuscript... and that sends us a heavy message.
In reality, the Om is not intended to be read silently but to be said. Through human speech, this mantra produces vibrations that bring us closer to the divine.
“Om” is apparently the original sound, the one by which all the elements of our world harmonize to form reality.
This theory does not come out of nowhere. In addition to a thousand-year-old oral transmission, it is in fact supported by a whole bunch of Indian mystical texts. We can for example cite the Upanishads or, more recently, the “Yoga Sutras” of Patanjali.
Reciting mantras is also a common spiritual practice. Whether yoga or meditation, almost all Indian techniques consider Om as a stabilizing mantra.
By acting on the chakras (notably that of the crown and the root chakra), it helps us access our divine being, and therefore to higher levels of consciousness.
