Copal resin, what is it for?
Natural copal resin is a product which, once burned, demonstrates numerous qualities, including a boost in immunity, an increase in concentration abilities and a calming of clouded minds.
Its use as a Mexican good luck charm is very ancient, as evidenced by the impressive offerings discovered in the sacred cenote of Chichen Itza (an ancient Mayan city in the Yucatan).
Sculptures fashioned from copal resin have also been found in the Temple of Tenochtitlan in Mexico City.
In fact, the ancient people of the region considered copal to be the embodiment of a protective deity they called "Iztacteteo" (this literally translates to "white", presumably a reference to the white smoke it produced when burned).
The benefits of copal resin were therefore widely recognized and used by pre-Hispanic cultures, particularly in the context of rituals, ceremonies or therapies?
