What exactly is a leprechaun?

In traditional Irish folklore, a leprechaun is a kind of mischievous and playful little leprechaun, protecting immense treasures and possessing astonishing magical powers.

According to linguists, the term “leprechaun” comes directly from the Irish expression “ leath bhrogan ”, which is used to designate shoemakers. Apparently, making shoes to sell to fairies and other fantastical creatures is a lucrative business, so much so that every leprechaun has a pot full of gold that he jealously guards.

More broadly, Irish legends explain to us that they possess all kinds of exceptional treasures that they enjoy hiding far from the gaze of men (at the foot of rainbows for example, or in caves buried under the earth).

This is clearly not an easy thing, but if you are lucky enough to catch one of these astonishing little beings, you will be entitled to leave with its loot... but not only that.

Irish leprechauns are also known for their ability to grant wishes to those who know how to find them.

However, be careful what you ask them: they are very playful and could have fun misinterpreting your wishes.

Regardless, the leprechaun is today a central figure in Irish folklore, often serving as an allegorical symbol in stories that amaze little ones...

Indeed, through the figure of the leprechaun, it is in fact the greed and envy of men which are expressed and against which we are warned.

More than just funny and full of good humor, this leprechaun doll conveys important moral messages.
