This Boiúna pendant, what exactly does it show us?
The Boiúna, sometimes also called "Cobra Grande", is one of the best-known mythological creatures of the Amazon basin. In reality, this name covers a whole host of different legendary snakes that have a few common characteristics.
Generally, a Boiúna is of gigantic size (some can reach two hundred meters in length and ten in width), have enormous eyes that glow in the night, and their body is ebony black. Their most frightening feature, however, remains their sharp fangs which protrude from its powerful jaw like so many horns.
Despite what their menacing physique might suggest, Boiúnas are intelligent creatures. They can be summoned during certain rituals and prove to be valuable advisors to men.
Sometimes they take human form to mingle with the village. Often in these cases, you have to be wary of them, their ruse can make them penetrate the mind of anyone. It is often said that its glowing eyes can hypnotize anyone who looks at them, making victims the puppets of the Boiúna.
Despite all these negative aspects, it remains a Brazilian lucky charm very appreciated for its power. Many peoples of the jungle worship him in order to attract his favor.
