A cornicello necklace... Where does that come from?

The word “cornicello” actually means “little horn.” This refers to the slightly twisted horn shape of this Italian lucky charm.

This type of cornicello (or Italian horn) necklace has been used in Europe for a long time.

In fact, its use probably began in the Neolithic period.

This lucky charm was used by ancient people as a symbol of fertility. At that time, good fertility was considered a blessing for the community.

According to some, the cornicello necklace was undoubtedly an attribute of an old lunar goddess of the peoples living in Europe in the past.

For others, it is clearly a representation of Cernunnos, the pagan horned god associated with fertility, life, animals and wealth. Practitioners of witchcraft knew Cernunnos well, so it is possible that they used the cornicello necklace (or Italian horn) to pay homage to him.

Nowadays, this Italian lucky charm is mainly used to protect against "malocchio", the Italian term for the evil eye.

It is therefore not uncommon to see this type of necklace worn in children's lessons or on car mirrors.

And you, do you think that such an ancient pagan lucky charm could still hold some of its former power ?
