Concretely, what does ichthus mean?
The ichthus is a very special Christian symbol.
The first believers, then persecuted by the Romans, made it a sign of recognition, resistance and preservation of the faith.
However, fish was used long before by pagans who, in their strange rites, used it for example to increase their fertility.
The symbol of the fish, and by extension that of the ichthus, is therefore marked with strong mystical symbolism.
Despite everything we might think, the term “ichthus” is in no way the translation of the word fish, but rather what we call a christogram (that is to say an acronym representing the name of Jesus Christ).
Each letter respectively means Jesus (I), Christ (CH), the son of God (TH) (U), Savior (S).
This lucky symbol that is the ichthus, in all its simplicity, is therefore a wonderful way to show our love and our respect towards Christ, but also our respect towards the suffering and martyrdoms that had to endure the first Christians.
In short, this ichthus pendant is a perfect symbol of unity that will bring the faithful closer together.
