The best-known cross model is undoubtedly the Latin cross.
For most Christians, it symbolizes the crucifixion of Christ. When shown with a representation of Christ, it is called a crucifix.
Others rather think that the Latin cross is to be compared with the Holy Trinity : the three shorter sections respectively represent the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, while the longer part is associated with the unity of the true Church.
