I have seen the lion of the tribe of Judah before, I believe, but what is its origin?

The Lion of Judah is the emblem of the Jewish tribe of the same name. This symbol actually comes to us directly from the book of Genesis in which Jacob calls his son Judah, the “young lion”.

The lion of Judah was also used as a symbol of the city of Jerusalem and Judaism.

In some churches and Christian organizations, the lion of Judah is seen as a symbol of Jesus Christ.

Today, however, it is in the Rastafari religion that this signet ring with the lion from the tribe of Judah will have the greatest role.

Indeed, its followers see in this animal a representation of the last emperor of Ethiopia: Haile Selassie.

According to Rastafari belief, Selassie would be the Messiah, the second coming of Christ announced in the book of Revelation with the phrase:

"His head and his hair were white like white wool, like snow; his eyes were like a flame of fire..."

For Rastafarians, the lion of Judah is the king of animals, and Selassie is the “king of kings”. The parallel was therefore not difficult to establish.

Jewish lucky charm, Christian lucky charm or African lucky charm: there are several ways to consider this signet ring with the lion of the tribe of Judah.
