So what is a “Jin Chan”? Wouldn't that be a good luck charm?

Yes, of course !

A Jin Chan statue can be a relatively confusing sight at first.

With its three legs, its red eyes and its big belly, this lucky charm does not look like the first toad that comes along.

And that’s quite normal: he’s not one!

The Jin Chan, whose name can literally be translated as "golden toad", is a legendary animal of the Han people.

Its exact origin is still unclear, but it seems that Jin Chan has links to Liu Hai, a god of Taoism.

One day, while walking in the forest, Liu Hai saw an injured fox. Eager to help his neighbor, he took him home to heal him.

Once saved, the fox transformed into a beautiful young girl who offered him a deal.

If Liu Hai helped him trap an evil toad in a well, then he would become a god and experience eternal life.

This toad was Jin Chan.

Liu Hai succeeded in his mission, and since then it has been customary to throw coins into the wells in the hope of upsetting Jin Chan.

By living among gold, he became what we know today: a golden toad.

Over the years and as the legend was passed down from generation to generation, this type of Jin Chan statue became an important element of feng shui decoration.

The saying "Catch the toad, and you too will have great wealth" clearly shows us the place occupied by this Chinese lucky charm in the country's culture.

This saying... Very little for you!

With this Jin Chan statue, you no longer need to make any effort to catch anything. All you have to do is simply place it in your office or living room to benefit from the powers of an ancient creature.
